Van Parker holds degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University. He studied carillon with Larry Weinstein and has served as assistant carillonneur at the 57-bell Deeds Memorial Carillon in Datyon, Ohio. Van has been a frequent guest carillonneur at Cleveland's Church of the Covenant and has also performed on the Arter Memorial Carillon at Church of the Saviour in Cleveland Heights. In October 2015, Van will also be performing a concert on the Thomas Dry Howie Carillon on the campus of The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina.
