World War I Armistice Centennial Commemoration

On Sunday, November 11, 2018 we observe the 100th anniversary of the armistice that ended "The Great War," World War I.

At 10:00a, Morning Worship at Church of the Covenant will include a performance of "Solas" by David Childs. This choral piece was commissioned for this weekend by the church's Friends of Music to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the McGaffin Carillon and to honor the centenary of the WWI armistice.

At 11:00a, the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the Memorial Bell will toll 100 times from the tower.

At 11:30, there will be an opportunity to meet David Childs, the composer.

At the 3:30p carillon recital, George Leggiero, University Circle Carillonneur will perform a program of music written to dedicate war memorial carillons. The McGaffin Carillon will join carillons around the world in the premier of "Sacred Suite" by Geert D'hollander to dedicate, on Sunday, a peace carillon at Park Abbey in Leuven, Belgium, a project of reconciliation between that city and the German city of Neuss.
